In August 2025, the high-purity manganese sulphate market reached a critical development period, with production showing significant MoM growth and achieving a certain degree of increase YoY.

Supply side, manganese salt plants demonstrated an active production schedule this month. As the traditional September-October peak season approached, companies concentrated their stockpiling demand in anticipation of rising market demand. This directly drove a substantial increase in long-term contract execution volumes for high-purity manganese sulphate, injecting strong vitality into the market. Many manganese salt plants ramped up production inputs, resulting in notable MoM growth in supply volumes for the month.

However, localized sluggishness persists in the current market. Spot orders remained at low levels, with no inventory hoarding observed. Consequently, most manganese salt plants adopted a produce-based-on-sales model to effectively control inventory risks, arranging production schedules according to actual orders. Downstream ternary cathode precursor plants also maintained cautious procurement strategies, focusing on meeting essential needs while avoiding cost pressures and inventory risks from excessive purchases.

Looking ahead to September, the downstream ternary cathode precursor market is expected to maintain steady growth momentum. With the rapid development of the NEV industry and gradual expansion of the ESS market, demand for ternary cathode precursors as key materials continues to rise. This growth trend is likely to further propagate upstream to manganese salt plants, driving another round of MoM production increases. YoY data is also projected to maintain certain growth rates. As a critical raw material for lithium battery cathodes, high-purity manganese sulphate is poised for sustained demand release and promising development prospects.

Before the holiday, the black chain is unlikely to see a trend-driven market [SMM Steel Industry Chain Weekly Report].
This week, ferrous metals were in the doldrums, with coking coal and coke staging a mid-week rise. At the beginning of the week, financial markets experienced sharp fluctuations, dragging down sentiment in the ferrous chain and leading to a pullback in futures. Mid-week, Indonesia's cut to coke production quotas drove coking coal and coke futures to lead the gains, though the impact was more pronounced on thermal coal, while coking coal's rise was largely sentiment-driven and short-lived. In the latter part of the week, finished products continued their seasonal inventory buildup, and support from the raw material side weakened, causing the entire ferrous chain to pull back. In the spot market, with the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, purchasing activity slowed down further, with end-users only making limited, as-needed purchases at low prices.
